    Description

    Hi Folks!
Up for your consideration today is a used, checked, and working Kenwood R-2000 general coverage receiver, S/N 4090196.
It comes with a copy of the operating manual and an AC power cord.
Set up for good old US of A 110 Volts AC!
The range is 150 kc-30 MHz general coverage AM, FM, USB, LSB, and CW modes.
118- 174 MHz reception is possible with the addition of the optional VC-10 VHF converter (see my other auctions for one of these rare beasts!)
Here are descriptions and specifications for the unit (shamelessly lifted from the Universal Radio site!):
The Kenwood R-2000 was the first modestly priced communications receiver to offer a host of advanced capabilities; succeeding the R-600 and R-1000. The R-2000 tunes from 100 to 29999.9 kHz in five modes (AM, FM, USB, LSB, and CW). The R-2000 presents the listener with three different tuning rates (and a frequency lock) plus convenient 1 MHz UP/DOWN buttons. A noise blanker, four position attenuator, AGC and all mode squelch are also included. The ten channel memory stores frequency and mode. The band-scan mode permits the R-2000 to scan between two user selected frequencies (at three rates!). The built-in seven digit fluorescent tube digital display indicates frequency to the nearest 100 Hz. With dimmer switch. The dual 24 hour quartz digital clock-timer can be used to activate the radio and an auxiliary device (recorder, etc.) for absentee DXing. The large front mounted speaker insures good fidelity. The rear panel has input for coaxial or hi-Z wire antennas. 120 VAC. UL listed. There is also the optional VC-10 VHF converter for additional frequency coverage.

The radio has been selectively tested for performance and functionality at a number of points.
You’ll see some gaps in coverage (15, 16, and 17 MHz) as I have very strong, local broadband interference on those frequencies, and 10 dB quieting was severely degraded by 6-10 dB, so the readings I took there don’t tell the real story.
Expect performance in those band segments to be very similar to those around them.
I did note some noise on the 4.5, 5.5, and 8.5 MHz readings that slightly affected them as well.
I did temporarily install and test a VC-10 converter in this unit, and it worked fine from 118-173.999.9 MHz. Again, VC-10 not included!
I checked basic functions, such as volume, VFO tuning, mode switches, AF gain, tone, squelch, dimmer, attenuator, band up and down, tuning speeds, and dial lock.
There were a few issues I ran into and remediated:
    1)
Loose volume, tone, and squelch pots: Volume and tone pots sprayed out with non-residual cleaner while I was in there, individual pots tightened up.
    2)
Flaky attenuator switch: Symptoms were the radio would work well until switched off “0”, then it would be intermittent when switched back. Switch flushed out with non-residual cleaner, and then treated with DeOxit D5. Seems to be solid now.
    3)
Straightened out a bent Volume control shaft and replaced the knob which had a dinged skirt.
Cosmetics are fair: The receiver has seen a lot of use: Top and bottom covers scratched and soiled. High spots on the plastic trim worn or dinged, scratches on the front panel on the right side of the blue stripe, and on the AF gain and Squelch paint (AF gain probably exacerbated by the event that bent the control and aluminum knob skirt).
Unit had a lot of dust in it. I gently cleaned off the top board, but you can still see dust and oxidation on the parts and cans.
    Screws show wear and oxidation.
I didn’t see any obvious signs of repairs or Cuzzin’ Bubba, “improving” the receiver…
I did “burn in” the receiver for several days (ran it 24/7 on a local AM station), no issues or glitches.
Maximum undistorted audio was about 11.6 volts peak to peak into 8 Ohms, which translates to 2.1 watts RMS of clean audio.
Audio tested with set at 7.500 MHz AM with a 100 uV signal to ensure full quieting, and standard 1000 Hz tone, 30% modulation.
S 9 was about 3.8 uV at the test frequency of  7.500 MHz.
For the quieting tests, I used the following:
10 dBQ for AM & SSB modes.
    20 dBQ for FM mode.
AM: 1000 Hz tone at 30% modulation.
FM: 1000 Hz tone at 3.0 kc deviation.
CW/SSB: Carrier only, no modulation (tune for 1000 Hz beat note).
